Location Data
Location data is central to the core functionality of the Horsepal App. We collect and process location data, including precise location (GPS), to provide features such as training session tracking, movement monitoring, and safety alerts.
Location data may be collected both while the app is in use (foreground) and when the app is closed or not in use (background), in order to ensure continuous tracking and accurate analysis of training activities.
This data is used to:
- Track training sessions and routes
- Provide live location sharing with trainers or friends
- Detect falls and trigger safety alerts
- Improve performance analytics and gait analysis
Location data may be processed securely on our servers (hosted on Microsoft Azure) to provide the features listed above. You can disable background location access at any time through your device's operating system settings, though this may limit certain App functionality such as continuous training tracking.
Our lawful basis for processing precise location data is the performance of a contract — you have requested the App's services — and, where applicable, your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
04
How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the App — including managing your account, horses, stables, training sessions, and health records.
- To deliver safety features — such as fall detection, safety alerts, and live location sharing.
- To improve our services — analysing usage patterns to enhance app performance, features, and user experience.
- To communicate with you — responding to support requests, sending service notifications, and (with your consent) marketing communications.
- To ensure security and prevent fraud — monitoring for suspicious activity and protecting your account.
- To comply with legal obligations — where required by applicable law or regulation.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
05
Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data with the following categories of recipients:
- Service providers — third parties who help us operate the App, including Microsoft Azure (cloud hosting and data storage), and analytics providers. These partners process data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements.
- Trainers and friends you invite — if you choose to share a live training session, your location and training data will be visible to the people you share with.
- App stores — Apple App Store and Google Play may receive technical and diagnostic data as part of normal app distribution.
- Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Horsepal or others.
Third-party services referenced on our website or within the App (including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google, and Apple) have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.
06
Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to satisfy legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
When determining the appropriate retention period, we consider the nature and sensitivity of the data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure, the purposes for which we process the data, and applicable legal requirements.
When you delete your account, your personal data and all associated content will be permanently removed from our systems. See our Delete Account page for instructions.
07
Security
We take the security of your personal data seriously and have implemented appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Your data is stored securely on Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
Access to personal data is restricted to Horsepal employees and partners who have a legitimate business need. All such parties are required to keep your data confidential and to process it only in accordance with our instructions.
We have procedures in place to respond to any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulatory authority where we are legally required to do so.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
08

- Right of access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure — you may request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Right to restrict processing — you may ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability — you may request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object — you may object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@horsepal.com. We aim to respond to all legitimate requests within one month.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Ireland, this is the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

We do not control these third-party services and are not responsible for their privacy practices. When you leave the Horsepal App or website, we encourage you to read the privacy notice of every service you visit.
11
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email, and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
